About the Event
Join Florida Coalition for Transgender Liberation online at 1 pm EST/12 pm CT as we watch and critique the Florida Senate Education Postsecondary Committee debate and vote on SB 266, Senator Erin Grall's dangerous attack on our higher education system, including the removal of Diversity Equity and Inclusion sponsored events & classes as well as a complete shut down of majors/departments that offer education on race studies, gender studies, and/or interdisciplinary studies and a hand over of the hiring of faculty to politically appointed Board of Trustees . The House Postsecondary Education and Workforce Committee just voted through similiar bill HB 999 with a committee substitute this past Monday, March 13th which means they are slamming this bill through both chambers. Each bill only has two committee assignments which will move it quickly to the House and Senate floor.
Then stay with us at 3 pm EST/2 pm CT as we move to the House Education Quality Committee to watch the debate and vote on HB 1069, a bill that denies the existence of transgender and gender diverse individuals through the redefinition of "sex" in the entire education system (preK-20) to “the binary division of individuals based upon reproductive function”. This bill also limits sex education in Florida public schools to the teaching of “biological sexes” and heterosexual only sex education pre-K to 12.
Stay after to commiserate and support each other as well as explore novel online and in-person ideas on how we can fight the bills.
